The Search Function

I just wanted to write a little blog agreeing with Sarah, "Go Blue," about the search function on the course's website. I also started using it this week along with my study preparation. I searched for items on Normalization, ER diagrams, and Exam questions. It was helpful to look up these topics to find answers concerning some of my questions, and look for clearer concept definitions, etc. Being able to sort the blogs into topic categories is very helpful considering the large number of blogs we produce from our class. On that subject, it is interesting to think how other blogs are searched through that are used by a much larger segment of the public rather than our class alone. The ability to have the blogs you want delivered to you on one screen is therefore a very poweful tool.

Thursday's Speakers

I thought the topics discussed Thursday in class by the Speakers Richard Sheridan and Andy Siedel were very interesting. Before the class, I had never heard about Google Add Words or Smart Tags that showed up in PowerPoint. I wish we had had more time to learn about how the smart tags works. If anyone understands it, I would love to hear more about it. Also, I did not stay after class to hear more from Andy, but I thought the topics that he was going to continue to discuss were interesting. If anyone stayed after class to hear the presentation, it would be great if you posted a short blog on what he talked about.

I also thought it was interesting how both speakers mentioned that company's try various ways just to get there name on top of the Google list. I hope Google continues to try to truly match our search queries with the information we desire rather than with the companies just trying to get found. I find it difficult enough as is to find the information I want from typing in key words in Google. I'd be curious to hear what others think about the Google Search. Although I use it often, I often don't find what is relevant to my particular search.
